Kalamazoo County Divorce Records
The Family Division of the 9th Circuit Court has jurisdiction over divorce matters. While most divorce proceedings do not require trial, some details are often required to take place in a court. Divorce decrees are issued by this court and are obtainable through the county clerk’s office. Aside from decrees, other documents make up divorce records, including complaints for divorce, summons, counterpetitions, responses, financial statements, motions, temporary orders, and separation agreements.
However, the divorce decree is the most important part of a divorce action, as it marks the legal ending of the marriage. The decree, as well as other associated records are public, unless restricted by law or court order. While inspecting these records, one should expect to find identifying information about the spouses, the date of the marriage, divorce complaint filing, and divorce finalization, case number, and the court’s final decision.
